The Center for Quantum Materials Engineering (CQME) is a research group within the `Oden Institute`_ and the `Department of Physics`_ at the `University of Texas at Austin`_, led by :doc:`Feliciano Giustino `. Our mission is to discover, investigate, and engineer quantum materials from first principles. We work at the intersection of condensed matter physics, electronic structure theory, high-performance computing, and materials science, developing quantum-mechanical approaches to predict and engineer material properties at the atomic scale. .. Our research spans three complementary directions. The first one focuses on the development of next-generation *ab initio* computational methods, combining density-functional theory with many-body techniques inspired by quantum field theory. The second one includes the development of open-source software for the global scientific community, and their optimization on leadership-class supercomputers; for this direction we work in close collaboration with the `Texas Advanced Computing Center`_. The third one explores the atomic-scale design and discovery of quantum materials and advanced semiconductors for next-generation electronics, optoelectronics, neuromorphic computing, and quantum technologies. .. _Oden Institute: https://oden.utexas.edu/ .. _Department of Physics: https://physics.utexas.edu/ .. _University of Texas at Austin: https://www.utexas.edu/ .. _Texas Advanced Computing Center: https://tacc.utexas.edu/
